8019 Menaul BLVD NE STE E&F, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87110

OVERALL BITES:

Value: Relish Gourmet Sandwiches gives you a decent size sub, with quality bread and meat for roughly $10 to $11. That also includes one side. Salads run about the same amount. It is a little more than what you might pay at another sandwich shop but the quality of the product is worth it.

Taste: I had the Spicy Italiano which was spicy enough. They loaded it with pickled peppers and carrots which gave it a great taste. Read the menu carefully as this sandwich comes with olives, which I don’t care for, but once I removed them the sandwich was great.

Presentation: The presentation of the sandwich is super simple and at the same time presentable. The reds of the meat popped in the sandwich and had a great contrast with the veggies. See for yourself…it looked delicious.

Vibe: There wasn’t much going on when I went by, which was just after lunch, but there were still a few customers. They seemed happy to be hanging out and enjoy their beverages and work, read, or simply hang out with their company. The restaurant is very inviting which makes you feel you can stick around a little longer.

Accessibility: Relish Gourmet Sandwiches is easy enough to find. They are on the North side of Menaul between Pennsylvania and Wyoming. During the lunch rush the parking lot can get kind of full but you should be able to find a space nearby.

Review – Relish Gourmet Sandwhiches

As you already know, I was on my way to work when I decided to stop by Relish Gourmet Sandwiches. I’ve seen this place several times as I take Menaul quite often. I finally decided to stop because they had yet to close. If you want to try Relish you need to be there before 3 on weekdays and before 4pm on weekends.

The time was just before 2pm and I was quickly able to find a parking spot. Other times the parking lot is pretty full but not today. I walked in and noticed the menu behind the counter which is to your right. The menu is a chalkboard with orange/pink items representing hot sandwiches. The blue items are cold sandwiches. They run around 10 to $11 per but include one side such as potato or pasta salad. Drinks are additional. The bread is from a local bakery. The meats are from Boar Head but cut on site according to what the cashier told me.

Once she took my order she gave me a number and I found an open table. Awards are on the East wall and the entire restaurant is filled with paintings from local artists that are for sale.

I ordered the Spicy Italiano but I didn’t realize it had olives so the first bite was a surprise because I don’t care for them. I cleansed my palet a bit and took another bite. The Spicy Italiano was tasty and somewhat spicy because of pickled peppers. The dressing went well with the veggies and the meats. If you didn’t bite into the sandwich directly on the meet it because a bit hard to handle – take a look at the picture. When you don’t bite directly into it, the meat goes to the side making for a messy sandwich. Regardless of the mess it made it was pretty tasty.

The Potato salad was mostly potatoes. Very little mustard or pickle. Had good flavor but more mashed potatoes than potato salad. I added a bit of pepper and then it seemed better but this is probably a personal preference. The freshness is evident as it’s made on site.

All in all I was pleased with my decision to stop. The sandwich was a decent value. What made it worthwhile is the quality of the bread and meats. For this reason I give Relish Gourmet Sandwiches 4 Bites! The napkins in little plant pots was a nice touch and I appreciated how they supported local artists. I was thanked as I walked out and also asked how my meal was. They care about their sandwiches and, more importantly, they care about their customers.

I wasn’t able to find them on Facebook or Instagram but you can visit their website HERE.
