Southern Maid Donuts

Southern Maid Donuts has been around for quite some time. 1940s time. Here is a little bit about them.

Overall Bites:

Value: 6 Donuts for $4.20. I don’t see as to why it isn’t a good deal! By the way, they have a dozen donuts for $7 everyday before 8 a.m. So rise and shine early birds!

Taste: The taste was great! Sweet, cake-y just like a donut should be. I was disappointed in the texture of the donut. Their tagline says “melts in your mouth” and well it didn’t melt in my mouth.

Presentation: Donuts in a box. Simple and great as is.

Vibe: The vibe wasn’t something to talk about really. I didn’t feel any warmness you would think to feel when walking into a donut shop or coffee shop etc.

Accessibility: Easy to find. Corner of Vista Del Sol and La Quinta. Big green place with Donuts on its sign.

Southern Maid Donuts – Review

Taco Tuesday, more like Donu-Tuesday (I just made that up). Around this time I always crave sweets and bread. So this morning I didn’t want to have anything but something sweet and doughy. I went everywhere looking for a donut shop. Found one local shop and it was closed for the day. I went to another and it was closed for good! Where are all the local donut shops around here? Then I spotted one (off Google).

Southern Maid Donuts. It was like finding a pot of gold. It is an easy place to find and had a big green sign that says DONUTS. That’s what really got me. So I approached the parking lot and I felt claustrophobic because it’s sort of a tight space. I got off and I was really expecting a warm, cozy coffee/donut shop. Didn’t really get that. I walk up and the girl taking my order was fine but nothing special. I mentioned it was my first time but she didn’t recommend anything and the menu offered more than just donuts and coffee. They also serve burritos.

I took half a dozen home so I could try at least 2 of the ones I was craving. Had a blueberry cake donut and a glazed donut with berry frosting on it. The blueberry donut was a bit dry. Personally I like my donuts a little more moist. The flavor was good, similar to Dunkin Donuts blueberry muffin. The other donut was ok. Also dry, very dry and didn’t melt in my mouth like their tagline says. Therefore Southern Maid Donuts gets 3 Bites from me, it just didn’t stand out to me like I would have wished.
