Taqueria Mexico – Torta de Asada

Taqueria Mexico – Torta de Asada

415 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102

Overall Bites:

Value: Plates range anywhere from $6 to $15. I had the Torta de Asada (Mexican Sandwich) with fries and a drink for just under $11. The serving of fries was more than enough and the Torta was almost a little more than I could handle. I needed a nap after this one.

Taste: Great! The beef was seasoned well, the torta had just enough of all the extras, and did I mention you get a lot of it!?!

Presentation: Nothing fancy if you order from the window to go – Styrofoam containers. The Torta was wrapped well so it didn’t fall apart when I took it to my cousin’s mechanic shop about a mile away (Advanced AutoTech).

Vibe: I didn’t step inside – I know, I’m slacking. I can tell you that I arrived about lunch time and there were a few people in line already. There were several more after me as well. Everybody seemed ok to wait around the shop after they ordered at the window. There are tables inside which appeared full.

Accessibility: Easy enough to find. You can get off I-25 and head west (away from the mountains) and you’ll see them on the right hand side. The picture below is a view going towards the mountain.

I’ve lived in Albuquerque for 35 years and I had yet to try Taqueria Mexico. I’ve had friends and family tell me about it but I’m usually not in the downtown area. On this particular day I needed to take the car to the shop and I figured I’d take my cousin some lunch – hoping I’d get a break on the labor (which I did!). It was right before lunch time and there was already a small crowd.

The tacos on the menu looked delicious but you may not be as much of a fan as I am. So I ordered the next best thing….an Asada Torta. This sandwhich had some heft to it. Definitely needed two hands! They were generous with their avocado, it had just the right amount of lettuce and tomatoes too. The meat was seasoned very well and I didn’t come across one chewy/fatty piece. There was so much meat that some fell out from the bottom. Eating tortas is a skill and I may have been a while since I’ve had one. Guess that’s yet another reason to go back!

I asked for a side order of fries to go with it which I didn’t finish. The meal was more than enough. It’s been a while since I’ve had a torta this good. The salsa it came with had just the right amount of zest and spice and made all the flavors pop. The fries were crispy and salted perfectly.

Taqueria Mexico offers Aguas Frescas as well as bottled sodas. They offer some sea food items and Mexican style steaks. I give Taqueria Mexico 4.5 Bites. The menu looked a little old and the shop looks worn down a bit. You can’t go wrong with the taste and the amount of food though. Check them out for yourselves and let us know what you think.
