Weck’s – Breakfast & Lunch

Weck’s – Breakfast & Lunch

730 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87123 (other locations)

Overall Bites:

Value: This is what I love about Weck’s – value. They make sure your belly is full, as their motto suggests. Meals run from $5 for stew up to about $12 for chicken fried steak. I had the Weck Deck for just shy of $10.

Taste: If you love NM cooking then you’ll love Weck’s. If you love green chile then you’ll love Weck’s. If you love food smothered in red or green then you’ll love Weck’s. If you love chile with just the right amount of bite then you’ll love Weck’s. If you want to try NM cooking then you’ll want to try Weck’s.

Presentation: Every plate of food from Weck’s looks fresh and neatly presented. Plates are bright white which makes the colors from the food stand out.

Vibe: The atmosphere at every Weck’s I’ve been to is great. They refill your drinks promptly, the manager on duty comes to check on you at least once, and the decor is fun.

Accessibility: Weck’s has grown since they first opened in 1991. They now have locations in the greater Albuquerque area as well as Santa Fe and Farmington. I visited the Juan Tabo location in north Albuquerque which was easy to get to and offered plenty of seating space during the busy morning.

If you love a full stomach, green chile, and NM cooking then Weck’s is the place for you. The prices are good, the plates are full, and the staff is like family. Every Weck’s is a little different in decor but the style in which they are decorated is similar. The Weck’s on Juan Tabo had a 50’s theme with Sinatra, Marilyn, Elvis, Dean and Ray Charles on the West wall. Elvis and Marilyn can be seen throughout. The hallway leading to the bathrooms features comic super hero posters.

We came by Weck’s at noon which should have been a busy time for them (from my experience at other locations) but there was plenty of seating available. I had the Weck Deck which is Turkey, Ham, Bacon, Toasted Bread, Lettuce, Tomato, Cheese, Guac (can’t forget that), and green chile. It came with a side of homemade potato chips which were perfectly toasted and salted. I also had the side of fruit. It was presented well, it looked super fresh, and I dove right in as soon as I got it! The sandwich was delicious. Just the right amount of chile, the cheese held everything together and the guacamole gave it that great flavor only avocado gives. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Normally I have the bowl of papas (a bowl of potatoes) with sausage. It’s potatoes, eggs, cheese and your choice of red or green chile. That’s my go to and it never disappoints. A hearty breakfast with all the flavors of NM in a bowl! I’ve also had their smothered burrito and that was great too! Bottom line is that you can’t go wrong with any menu item at Weck’s. The equally great part about Weck’s is their friendly staff. The manager always comes out to check to see how your food tastes. The staff is always quick to get you a refill and if you would like a ‘to go’ cup simply ask and they’ll bring you a full one. I’m not talking about your Styrofoam or cheap plastic cups from the gas station. These are nice cups that you can use later on at your house…I may have several of them myself.

Weck’s gets 4.5 Bites from me. The only reason I can’t give them 5 is because they close at 2pm….2!!! If you’re an early bird they open at 7am. If you woke up too late for the hotel breakfast then try Weck’s. If you want a great place for a hearty brunch go to Weck’s. If you’re looking for a great breakfast/lunch place then try Weck’s. If you’re looking for a place to have a dinner….you’ll have to look at one of our other reviews to know Where the Locals Eat!
